Mr. Harun Rashid Khan Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) looks after Central Security Cell, Department of External Investments and Operations, Department of Government and Bank Accounts, Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, Foreign Exchange Department, Internal Debt Management Department and Inspection Department.
Prior to being appointed as Deputy Governor, Mr. Khan, served as Executive Director of Reserve Bank of India, Regional Director of the Bank’s New Delhi Office and was also Principal of the College of Agricultural Banking in Pune.  Mr. Khan has over 32 years Central Banking Experience and has held responsible posts in various Departments of RBI.
Mr. Khan has been on several Committees of RBI and he is also the Nominee Director of RBI on the board of National Housing Bank.
Shri Khan joined Reserve Bank in 1978 after his Masters in Political Science from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and Masters in Philosophy from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.  Shri Khan is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB) and holds Diploma in Business Management (DBM).

Mr. Arun Maira is a Member of the Planning Commission chaired by the Prime Minister of India. In this ministerial level position, he is responsible for facilitating the shaping of policies and programs relating to industrialisation and urbanisation in the country, and tourism.
He has a combination of hands-on leadership experience, consulting experience to leadership teams internationally, and thought-leadership as an author and speaker on the subjects of leadership and organisation transformation.
He is a frequent speaker at international forums on the future of India. He writes regularly in the Economic Times in India and other management and business journals. He is the author of several books, which include "Shaping The Future:  Aspirational Leadership in India and Beyond" by John Wiley's & Sons in 2001, “Remaking India: One Country, One Destiny” by Response Books in 2004, “Discordant Democrats: Five Steps to Consensus” by Penguin Books in 2007, and “Transforming Capitalism: Business Leadership to Improve the World for Everyone” by Nimby Books in 2008.
He was a member of the Tata Administrative Services and worked in several senior positions in the TATA Group in India and abroad for 25 years until 1989. He worked with Arthur D.Little Inc (ADL), the international management consultancy, in the USA from 1989 to 1999, and consulted with companies across the world on issues of growth strategies and transformational change. During this time he was Managing Director of Innovation Associates, an Arthur D. Little subsidiary, Leader of ADL’s North American Manufacturing Practice and Leader of ADL’s World-wide Organization and Strategy Practice. He returned to India in 2000 and was Chairman of The Boston Consulting Group in India until April 2008.
He has been a Member of The Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) National Council for many years, as well as Chairman of several of CII’s National Councils, including the National Council for Corporate Governance, and Chairman of CII’s Leadership Summit.
Arun Maira was Chairman of Save the Children, India, and Chairman of the Axis Bank Foundation. He has served on the boards of several Indian and international management education institutions. He was also on the boards of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, the India Brand Equity Foundation, and the Public Interest Foundation, as well as a trustee of WWF India, the World Food Program India Trust, and Aspen India.
Arun Maira was born in Lahore on 15 August 1943. He received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Physics from St Stephen's College, Delhi University.

Mr. Arun Kumar Misra

Ministry Of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation

Mr. Arun Kumar Misra is a member of the elite Indian Administrative Service of the 1976 Batch. He began his career in the most populous and administratively challenging State of Uttar Pradesh, the cadre allotted to him and commendably served the State for more than 35 years in various capacities in the departments of Agriculture, Health, Education, Power, Urban & Rural Development etc., up to October, 2008. He is credited to have introduced the Agro-Industrial Policy, Agriculture Policy and Power Policy of the State which ushered in path-breaking reforms in these sectors.
Mr. Misra was called to serve the Government of India at the Centre as the Principal Advisor, Energy and Rural Development in the Planning Commission in November 2008. Later, he took over as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Rural Development on 1st July, 2010 and continued upto 9th August, 2011. On 10th August, 2011, he took over as the full-fledged Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, New Delhi. In the Urban Development Sector, he has earlier worked as Municipal Commissioner, Lucknow and Vice-Chairman, Lucknow Development Authority besides as Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh. His work as Project Director, Ganga Action Plan and In-Charge of Haridwar Kumbha Mela has also come in for a lot of appreciation.
As Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation Mr. Misra is charged with the responsibility of formulating and implementing policies and programmes at the national level in important thrust areas of Urban Development under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission with special focus on Basic Services to the Urban Poor and Integrated Housing & Slum Development, Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana, Interest Subsidy Scheme for the Urban Poor, Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme, Promotion of Innovative Building Technology & Materials, development of Housing Start Up Index repository in the National Building Organization under the Ministry, the National Urban Housing & Habitat Policy and the flagship Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), a whole-city, in-situ Slum Redevelopment Programme of the Ministry. As the Administrative Secretary of the Ministry, he is in overall charge of the Public Sector Undertakings viz., Housing & Urban Development Corporation and the Hindustan Pre-Fab Ltd., and the Autonomous Organizations like the Central Government Employees’ Welfare Housing Organization, Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council, National Co-operative Federation of India as well as the Attached Office of National Buildings Organization. These organizations are involved in the financing and promotion of low cost social housing and sanitation projects as well as popularization of innovative and earthquake resistant building materials, both in India and abroad.
As incumbent Secretary of the Ministry, he also functions as the President of the Governing Council of CGEWHO, Chairperson, Executive Committee as well as Vice President of the Board of Management of BMTPC and a Director on the Board of Directors of the National Housing Bank.
Mr. Arun Kumar Misra has represented the Indian Government in various countries including South Africa, Brazil, Australia, Switzerland, United States, United Kingdom, and Sri Lanka.

Mr. Deepak S Parekh FCA, is the Chairman of the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), India's first and largest mortgage company.
He joined HDFC in a senior management position in 1978, was inducted as a full-time director of the Corporation in 1985 and was appointed Chairman in 1993.
A renowned Indian business personality and a specialist in the world of finance, he has been a member of various Committees set up by the Government of India.
Mr. Parekh has also won several awards including Businessman of the Year 1996 (Business India), the JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award from the All India Management Association (AIMA) in 1997, was chosen as the 'Best Non-Executive Director – 2006' by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance in recognition of his leadership on the board of several large companies and was the youngest recipient of the prestigious Corporate Award for Life Time Achievement by The Economic Times in 2006.
He was also conferred "Padma Bhushan" in 2006 by the Government of India, one of its highest civilian honours. He has been dubbed as one of the 'Stars of Asia' by Business Week, listed as one of the top 25 most influential people in business and finance across Asia-Pacific by Asia Money and awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by Finance Asia in 2008. He was also recognised for his work in the areas of philanthropy and social commitment by the American India Foundation in 2007.

Mr. Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi

Mr. Zaigham Rizvi is a career development finance banker. He has served in many prestigious and frontline Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in Pakistan and abroad. Zaigham has been associated with Association of Development Finance Association of Asia & Pacific (ADFIAP) for over 20 years. He was Vice Chairman ADFIAP, and his work received several recognition awards such as the “Outstanding CEO Award”, the “Life Time Membership Award”, and is honored to be its “Honorary Member”.
His notable achievements include the successful turnaround of leading DFIs in Pakistan, namely: Saudi-Pak Investment Co., Pak-Libya Holding Company, Pak-Kuwait Investment Company and House Building Finance Corporation. He also played a leading role in the establishment of new joint venture DFIs in Pakistan, namely: Pak-Oman, Pak-Iran and Pak-China Investment Company. In the Gulf, Zaigham was a founding member of the team which established Oman Development Bank, the first DFI in the Sultanate of Oman, and served it for eight years.
Zaigham was the founder of the Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP), and served as its Chairman for nearly 10 years. Through MUFAP’s platform he played a pivotal role in launching a variety of mutual funds in Pakistan’s Capital Market. He also served on the Boards of Karachi Stock Exchange, Islamabad Stock Exchange and Commodities Exchange of Pakistan as a nominee Director of Security & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). ). Zaigham has served on Boards of different corporate entities including House Building Finance Corporation, Pakistan. Zaigham was the Founding Director of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG).
Zaigham has played a key role of promoting Islamic Finance in Pakistan and has served as Founding Director on the Boards of Meezan Bank (a commercial bank), Al-Meezan Asset Management Co. (a portfolio management entity), and as Chairman of Takaful Pakistan (an Islamic Insurance Company.
Over the years Zaigham has developed a passion for Low-Cost Affordable Housing Solutions for Economically Weaker Sections of the society. His experience in the field spreads over many geographical regions around the globe covering Africa, Middle-East, South-Asia and Pacific. He was also a part of Pro-Poor Housing Initiative taken by UN-ESCAP, and World Bank study on “Expanding Housing Finance to the Underserved in South-Asia.
He has served as an Expert Consultant on Housing and Housing Finance to the World Bank, IFC, UN-ESCAP, UN-HABITAT, CMHC of Canada, ShoreBank International and other international agencies. Under different assignments he has studied housing sector in countries like Egypt, Palestine, Saudi-Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Mongolia, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Botswana, Malawi, Senegal and Ghana. Mr. Zaigham is an Advisory Board Member of Asia-Pacific Journal of Housing Finance and is also serving as its Secretary General.
Zaigham holds a Masters in Business Administration from USA, Masters in Economics and Chemical Engineering from Pakistan, and was a Fulbright Scholar of the US Government (1975 to 1977). His Certifications include “Executive Development Program” of ADFIAP, the “Director Education” program of PICG, Banking Diploma from Institute of Bankers Pakistan, and Diploma from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Pakistan. He is currently based in Washington.

Mr. V. Srinivasa Rangan is an associate member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India.
Mr. Rangan is Executive Director at Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC Ltd). Associated with the company since 1986 he was inducted onto the Board as Executive Director in January 2010. Prior to which he was Senior General Manager – Treasury.
Rangan joined HDFC in 1986 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. His current responsibilities include Funds mobilization through Deposits (Retail and Corporate), Bank Loans, Issuance of Debentures and Commercial Papers, External Commercial Borrowings, structured financing options, Mortgage Backed Securitization (MBS), Asset Liability Management, Risk Management, Financial Accounting and Taxation, capital management.
Mr. Rangan is also on the boards of several HDFC group companies. Apart from HDFC group of companies he is also on the boards of Atul Limited, IVF Advisors Private Limited, Ruralshores Business Services Pvt Ltd., Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd, and TVS Credit Services Ltd.
Mr. Rangan has worked on international consulting assignments in housing finance in Ghana and the Maldives. He has been a member of various committees related to financial services. These include:

  • Member of the RBI’s Committee on Asset Securitization and Mortgage Backed Securitization.
  • Member of the Technical Group formed by National Housing Bank for setting up of a Secondary Mortgage market institution in India.
  • Member of NHB’s Working Group on Covered Bonds.
  • Member of NHB’s Working Group on Credit Enhancement Mechanism.

Mr Rangan was conferred the “Best CFO in the Financial Sector for 2010” by “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” (ICAI) for exceptional performance and achievements as CFO in the Financial Sector for the year 2010.

Ms. Engstrom joined ADB in 2006. Prior to her position at the ADB, Ms. Engstrom worked for five years as a Senior Structured Transactions Manager at Fannie Mae in its Capital Markets Group. She has also held positions at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation in Washington D.C. and the International Finance Corporation. Ms. Engstrom has an MBA from Georgetown University and a Master’s Degree in international affairs from the University of Virginia.

Ira Peppercorn is Senior Housing Finance Specialist of the World Bank.  He was formerly the President of Ira Peppercorn International, which specialized in affordable housing, mortgage markets and finance.  Mr. Peppercorn was the Deputy Federal Housing Commissioner of the United States under President Bill Clinton.  While there, he oversaw a $600 billion mortgage insurance fund, led efforts in appraisal reform, and restructured and preserved $30 billion in multi-family mortgages. Ira Peppercorn’s international projects include advising governments and financial on effective mortgage lending processes including underwriting, marketing and loss mitigation procedures; financial innovations in affordable housing; structuring of funds and subsidies for affordable housing;  public, social and rental housing, and national housing policies. Mr. Peppercorn has spoken and trained extensively on the causes of and solutions for the mortgage crisis.  He also has strong expertise in post-disaster recovery.  In 2012, he and Claude Taffin will be publishing a book on rental and social housing. He has worked in Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and North and South America. Mr. Peppercorn holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters in Business Administration from Yale University.

Dr. Claudia Loy,

Dr. Claudia Loy is heading the Energy Sector and Strategy Division of KfW Development Bank, Germany.
Ms. Loy studied medicine, economics and philosophy at the University of Freiburg and New York University. She holds a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Economics and worked as a lecturer in economics at University of Freiburg prior to joining KfW in 1986.
After having worked as project manager for the Bank’s Africa Region and the Commercial Export and Project Finance Department (now IPEX-Bank) she was appointed Principal Economist for the Africa Region in 1995. In 1999 she joined the Europe Department and took over the Energy and Transport Division for Eastern Europe and Caucasus Region.
In 2009 she was appointed head of the Energy Asia Division. Since 2011 she is head of the Energy Sector and Policy Division with its responsibility for general sector work and development of sectoral guidelines. Ms Majumdar leads the team on research related to sustainable urban development, transportation systems, and habitats.
She is an Architect-Building Technology professional with specialization in energy efficiency and development of sustainable habitats, with over 17 years of experience in the field of energy and environment with core expertise in sustainable development of habitat and buildings.
Ms Majumdar has been involved in several policy initiatives to mainstream sustainable buildings in India. Furthermore, as a member of several national and regional level expert committees, she has contributed significantly to the development of relevant codes and standards (Energy Conservation Building Code, Guidelines for Environmental Clearance of large construction projects, National Building Code 2005) in the country. He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a degree of Bachelor of Law in 1988 and started to work with Government Housing Loan Corporation (GHLC). He worked as Manila Representative at Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF) from 1996 to 1999 and Country Director for Philippines at Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) from 1999 to 2000. He was seconded to Fannie Mae in 2002 to develop secondary mortgage market in Japan.
He published 6 books on current financial crisis, one of which is translated into Chinese and another into Korean. Mr. Kokularupan (also known as Rupan) graduated with a Bachelor of Economics Second Upper Honours from the University of Malaya in 1974. From April 1974 to April 1982, he held various positions in the Economics and Banking Departments of the Central Bank of Malaysia. From May 1982 to July 1987, he held the position of Senior Manager of Malaysia Building Society Berhad (a housing credit institution). Rupan was a pioneer of Cagamas Berhad, the National Mortgage Corporation of Malaysia. He joined Cagamas in August 1987 and from January 2001, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer until his retirement in April 2006. As Chief Executive Officer, Rupan was a director of Cagamas Mortgage Backed Securities Berhad (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cagamas) which was set up for the securitization of the Government’s staff housing loans. He was also a director of BNM Sukuk Berhad, which was set up for the issuance of Islamic securities guaranteed by the Central Bank of Malaysia.
Upon retirement, he joined IFC as a Consultant for Housing Finance covering East Asia until September 2007. In June 2006, he was appointed as a Short Term Consultant to look into investment opportunities in the Egyptian Mortgage Refinance Company (EMRC).
In September 2007, he was appointed as the Principal Housing Finance Specialist covering East Asia and providing global support for Liquidity Facilities until September 2009. Since then he was appointed as a Consultant to IFC.

Olivier Hassler was the World Bank Housing Finance program coordinator until October 2011. Kaushik Basu is currently Chief Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He is on leave from Cornell University where he is Professor of Economics and the C. Marks Professor of International Studies. Till 2009 he was Chairman of the Department of Economics and during 2006-9 he was Director of the Center for Analytic Economics at Cornell.
Earlier he was Professor of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics, where in 1992 he founded the Centre for Development Economics in Delhi and was its first Executive Director. He is also a founding member of the Madras School of Economics.
He is currently (the fourth) President of the Human Development and Capabilities Association, which was founded by Amartya Sen. He has held advisory posts with the ILO, the World Bank, the Reserve Bank of India and was, for several years, member of the steering committee of the Expert Group of Development Issues set up by the Swedish Government. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Exim Bank of India.
Kaushik Basu has held visiting positions at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and the London School of Economics, where he was Distinguished Visitor in 1993. He has been Visiting Professor at Harvard University (Economics Dept) - 2004, Princeton University (Economics Dept) - 1989-91, and M.I.T. (Economics Dept) -2001-02.

He served for almost 6 years in Urban Development and Housing sector in Rajasthan in two spells. He is credited with coming up with several Policies and innovative programmes/projects in this sector. The most notable of his contributions is the Affordable Housing Policy in 2009, mainly on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model which has been a trend setter for other States. Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation, Government of India has recommended this Policy to all other States in the country. About 80,000 houses are under construction in Rajasthan in various models under this Policy. His other notable contributions are Township Policy, Slum Development Policy, Model Building Regulations for all municipal bodies in Rajasthan, City Master plans for all towns in the State-about 100 master plans were made in two years in-house as well as through outsourcing. He envisaged the Jaipur Metro Rail Project and not only got it approved from State Govt and Government of India but got started the construction work on Stage 1 (9.7 kms) of the project through DMRC -it’s now at an advanced stage and is likely to be commissioned by July, 2013.He introduced several new concepts in Rajasthan like TDR, Redevelopment of old areas and properties through incentive mechanism, developed an Intergrated  Solid Waste Management model which is under implementation in six major towns of Rajasthan etc

Mr. Arun Kumar Misra is a member of the elite Indian Administrative Service of the 1976 Batch.  He began his career in the most populous and administratively challenging State of Uttar Pradesh, the cadre allotted to him and commendably served the State for more than 35 years in various capacities in the departments of Agriculture, Health, Education, Power, Urban & Rural Development etc., up to October, 2008.  He is credited to have introduced the Agro-Industrial Policy, Agriculture Policy and Power Policy of the State which ushered in path-breaking reforms in these sectors.
Mr. Misra was called to serve the Government of India at the Centre as the Principal Advisor, Energy and Rural Development in the Planning Commission in November 2008.  Later, he took over as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Rural Development on 1st July, 2010 and continued upto 9th August, 2011.  On 10th August, 2011, he took over as the full-fledged Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, New Delhi.  In the Urban Development Sector, he has earlier worked as Municipal Commissioner, Lucknow and Vice-Chairman, Lucknow Development Authority besides as Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh.  His work as Project Director, Ganga Action Plan and In-Charge of Haridwar Kumbha Mela has also come in for a lot of appreciation.
As Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation Mr. Misra is charged with the responsibility of formulating and implementing policies and programmes at the national level in important thrust areas of Urban Development under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission with special focus on Basic Services to the Urban Poor and Integrated Housing & Slum Development, Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana, Interest Subsidy Scheme for the Urban Poor, Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme, Promotion of Innovative Building Technology & Materials, development of Housing Start Up Index repository in the National Building Organization under the Ministry, the National Urban Housing & Habitat Policy and the flagship Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), a whole-city, in-situ Slum Redevelopment Programme of the Ministry.  As the Administrative Secretary of the Ministry, he is in overall charge of the Public Sector Undertakings viz., Housing & Urban Development Corporation and the Hindustan Pre-Fab Ltd., and the Autonomous Organizations like the Central Government Employees’ Welfare Housing Organization, Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council, National Co-operative Federation of India as well as the Attached Office of National Buildings Organization.  These organizations are involved in the financing and promotion of low cost social housing and sanitation projects as well as popularization of innovative and earthquake resistant building materials, both in India and abroad.
As incumbent Secretary of the Ministry, he also functions as the President of the Governing Council of CGEWHO, Chairperson, Executive Committee as well as Vice President of the Board of Management of BMTPC and a Director on the Board of Directors of the National Housing Bank.

Mr. Zaigham Rizvi is a career development finance banker. He has served in many prestigious and frontline Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in Pakistan and abroad. Zaigham has been associated with Association of Development Finance Association of Asia & Pacific (ADFIAP) for over 20 years. He was Vice Chairman ADFIAP, and his work received several recognition awards such as the “Outstanding CEO Award”, the “Life Time Membership Award”, and is honored to be its “Honorary Member”.
His notable achievements include the successful turnaround of leading DFIs in Pakistan, namely: Saudi-Pak Investment Co., Pak-Libya Holding Company, Pak-Kuwait Investment Company and House Building Finance Corporation. He also played a leading role in the establishment of new joint venture DFIs in Pakistan, namely: Pak-Oman, Pak-Iran and Pak-China Investment Company. In the Gulf,   Zaigham was a founding member of the team which established Oman Development Bank, the first DFI in the Sultanate of Oman, and served it for eight years.
Zaigham was the founder of the Mutual Funds Association of Pakistan (MUFAP), and served as its Chairman for nearly 10 years. Manoj has been a serial entrepreneur throughout his career. Ms. Renu Sud Karnad joined HDFC Ltd in 1978. After having spent over two decades in various positions, she were inducted onto its Board as Executive Director in 2000. She grew to become Joint Managing Director in 2007 and has been elevated to the post of Managing Director with effect from January 1 , 2010.
Ms. Karnad is in - charge of the lending operations of the company and is responsible for spearheading HDFC’s expansion. Under Ms. Karnad leadership, HDFC has grown consistently in its lending business with cumulative home loan disbursements of over Rs. 2.8 trillion.
Additionally, she has under her fold the Human Resources and Communications functions. Apart from being HDFC’s brand custodian, Ms. Karnad is the guiding force behind formulation of the organisation’s communication strategy and public image. Recognizing the changing needs and lifestyles of its customers, under her stewardship, HDFC Ltd. has been consistently rolling out innovative and customer friendly mortgage products and services.
Owing to her successful spell with the mortgage sector, Ms. Karnad has served as the president of the International Union for Housing Finance (IUHF), an association of housing finance firms present across the globe. She has also served as Director, Asian Real Estate Society.
Besides being on the Board of several HDFC Group companies including HDFC Bank, she is the Chairperson of HDFC Property Venture, India’s first property venture capital company and a wholly owned subsidiary of HDFC Ltd. Ms. Karnad is also on the Board of a number of Indian and Multinational companies like Bosch Limited, Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited, Feedback Ventures limited, G4S Corporate Services Private  Limited, HDFC Bank Ltd, Akzo Noble India Limited, Indraprastha Medical Corporation Limited and Sparsh BPO Services Limited. She is a member of the Senior Expert Council of IDFC private Equity.
Over the years, Ms. Karnad has had to her credit, numerous awards and accolades. She was part of India Today power list 2011. Magazine’s 25 MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN PROFESSIONALS IN INDIA. She has featured in the ET – Corporate Dossier list of India Inc’s Top 15 powerful women CEO,s in 2010 and in Business Today magazine’s list of ‘Most Powerful Women in India Business’ for five years – 2004,2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009. Ms. Banashree Banerjee is an urban planner, currently working as an independent consultant. As a government town planner, university teacher, and researcher, she has primarily focused on inclusive and participatory approaches to urban planning and management, particularly in relation to poverty reduction. She has been responsible for designing, implementing, and institutionalizing participatory planning and monitoring in poor settlements and in a number of cities. Ms. Banerjee teaches part time at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies in Rotterdam. She served as Chairperson of the International Jury for the UN-Habitat Best Practices Awards in 2008 and as working group member of the Global Commission for Legal Empowerment of the Poor in 2007.
